Four Stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis


Stage 1

In early-stage RA, there’s inflammation in the tissue around the joint(s). With some pain and stiffness., without evidence of radiologic evidence.

Stage 2

The inflammation has begun to damage the cartilage with increased stiffness, pain, and decreased range of motion.

Stage 3

Damage to bone is evident, Stage 2 signs and symptoms progress. Visible physical joint changes are noted.

Stage 4

Inflammation stops but severe pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of mobility, with potential deformity.
